Adapt/Edit a Candela Course - Blackboard Learn

Baird Whelan -

Adapt a Course in Blackboard

When you integrate a Candela course into a Blackboard course shell, you can change how Candela course materials appear in your Blackboard course by reordering, renaming, moving, deleting/hiding or adding additional materials using basic Blackboard capabilities.

Any changes you make in your own Blackboard course will not change the Candela course you are integrating, so feel free to tailor your Blackboard course to meet your own teaching and learning needs.

Make sure Edit Mode is ON in your Blackboard course to make changes like those below.

When you are making changes like those below, make sure you don't change the Candela course item URL as that will break the connection between that item and the original Candela course.

Reorder

Drag and drop pages, folders or content areas to reorder them to match the sequence of your course and syllabus: Grab the yellow handle on the left of any item to reorder by dragging and dropping.

You can also add a Description to any item, but make sure to add only one paragraph. If you add more, the link will not work till you change the Description to only have one paragraph.

Hide pages, folders or content areas from students: Click the menu to the right of any item name and on content areas, choose Hide Link, or on pages or folders choose Edit, then check "No" on Permit Users to View this Content. The item will still be visible to you when Edit Mode is ON, but will be hidden from students. Unhide an item by reversing this process.

Delete pages, folders or content areas to remove them from your course. Click the menu to the right of any item name and choose Delete to remove that item from your course. Deleting a Candela course item in your Blackboard course will not delete it from the Candela course you have integrated and you can restore a deleted item with help from Lumen support.

Add

Add or move other material or tools into any folder or content area, including additional content, assignments, links, tests or other Blackboard tools and capabilities. Click the Build Content, Assessments, Tools or Partner Content menus at the top of any folder and choose an item to add to your course. Note that adding material to your Blackboard course using Blackboard tools will not automatically add that same material to the Candela course you have integrated.

Other Settings

Change any item to use Blackboard settings like adaptive release, alignments, statistics tracking, etc. Click the menu to the right of any item name and choose any setting to modify.

Deeper Adaptation

If you'd like to go beyond the adaptation outlined above and make deeper changes to the content and/or structure of a course, request a copy of the Candela course that you can modify to suit more specific needs. Consider collaborating with colleagues in your department or college to create a new common course you can all use.

Once you have your own course copy, you can make deeper modifications, including editing, deleting or adding to any content.

The new course you make from the copy can also be imported into any Blackboard course.
